GECCO2 Takes the Gold, Winning Ground Source Heating Solution for New Rebecca Adlington Swimming Centre
GECCO has won the contract to design and build a Closed Loop Ground Source Heat Pump system for the newly named Rebecca Adlington Swimming Centre in Mansfield Woodhouse.
The project, financed by Mansfield Council, was awarded by Robert Prettie (M & E Contractor) for G F Tomlinson Group (Main Contractor) and forms part of a £4.5 million refurbishment of the former Sherwood Swimming Baths, which is due to re-open in January 2010.
The contract will see GECCO sink a large number of 125m deep bore holes, which will be required to provide the required 130kW capacity necessary to heat the increased size six-lane pool and leisure centre, whilst also bringing the additional benefits of low-running costs and reduced carbon emissions.
Speaking about the project Matt Love, (MD of GECCO) said: "It's an exciting and high-profile project that is not without its difficulties, as the boreholes will need to penetrate difficult ground conditions, including Coal Measures bedrock with an adjacent disused mineshaft, however our experience on similar projects will see us rise to the challenge."
